East Coast Hike - Description

The schedule is variable and depending on the shape/speed of the group.

10-12days hiking

1-2days break at the east coast (depending on the shape of the group)

3-4days in Longyearbyen

All participants sleep in tents provided by the tour operator Namipunga Polar Expeditions.

Two participants will sleep in one tent (tent team). We will use tents made for three people  - there will be enough space for all of your equipment and personal gear.

Namipunga Polar Expeditions provides various dehydrated mountaineering food. You can chose your meals after booking. We will send you a list with all the available meals.

Food for 14 days means 10-11 kg weight in your backpack.

To reduce the weight Namipunga Polar Expeditions wi‘ll establish a depot at the east coast done by snow mobile  transport end of April. The depot will contain half of the necessary food and fuel for all participants.

The other half of food and fuel will be provided to all participants in Longyearbyen.

+++ We need between 2800 kcal und 3500 kcal energie per day!!! +++

You don‘t have to bring food or fuel by plane.

It is forbidden to transport any fuel by plane.

Namipunga Polar Expeditions provides the needed equipment for cooking for each tent team.

The cooking procedure is very easy: open the dry-meal-bag fill it with hot water - wait five minutes - done! No dish washing - when you are done with your meal - just crawl in your backpack and sleep. Of course we‘ll take the waste back to Longyearbyen.

The group will be led by an experienced, armed guide, providing all needed safety, rescue and communication equipment.

(signalpistol, rifle, ammunition,  tripwire...).

For polar bear safety during night time we will set up a trip wire around the camp

The expected temperature at the end of August is between -10°C und +6°C. Your sleeping bag should fulfill those requirements inside the comfort zone - please check your sleeping bag. If there are any doubts - ask us! During that time we still have 24h daylight.

The group will cross tundra regions, swampy and rocky terrain. The route will lead us across two glaciers and we will have to walk through some rivers/streams.

We will walk between 6 and 8 hours per day (breaks and photo stops not included).

The participanst should be able to walk with a heavy backpack (20-25kg) the mentioned time.

The tour operator is willing to help with the preparation of your journey. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We would be pleased to help you creating a plan for your personal training to get you in the shape you need.
